Group Discussion

Part 4 | “The Impact of Faithless Lives” Print · Download PDF · Send to a friend

The following questions are meant to help your group enter into meaningful discussion that we pray will help you grow in your walk with God. They are simply a guide, so you don’t have to use or get through all of them. You may want to look through them ahead of time and identify the ones that would work well with your group. Any questions you don’t get to might be used by your group members for study and reflection in their personal devotional times. And if your group naturally breaks the ice, feel free to skip the icebreaker question. Remember, it’s all about community, so let the Spirit guide your discussion where He wants it to go.

ICEBREAKER:

What’s the worst gift you have ever gotten?

REFLECT:

  • Read Joshua 1:1-9.
  • What does the promise, “You will be prosperous and successful.” mean to you?
  • On Sunday Pete said, “God doesn’t always give us answers but He does give us promises.”
“I tend to live the way I drive. I want to get from point A to point B in the shortest amount of time and by the easiest route possible. But I’ve come to realize that getting where God wants me to go isn’t nearly as important as becoming who God wants me to be in the process. And God seems to be far less concerned with where I’m going than with who I’m becoming.” Mark Batterson
  • When going through a difficult challenge do you tend to focus on the questions (When will this be over? Why is this happening? What did I do to deserve this?) or on the promises of God? Why?
  • In what ways do you sense that God is with you every day?
  • Do you really think God needs our money? Why or why not?
  • If God doesn’t need our money, what does he need from us?
  • Describe a time when God was generous with you and you did not deserve it?

RESPOND:

  • Take a moment and brainstorm about personal sacrifices that you could make for the Faith, Hope & Love campaign.
  • Close the group time in prayer for the miracle that is going to happen on Sunday.
