What does my decision to follow christ mean?

The decision to follow Jesus is the most important decision you’ll ever make. Churches often call this decision “salvation” because it’s the way God rescues us from the consequences of sin. It’s not based on anything you’ve done, but is simply the free gift that God offers because of Jesus’ sacrifice for us on the cross. When you decide to follow Jesus, it means that you:

Agree with Him that you’ve made sinful choices
Repent (which is a fancy word for saying you’re sorry and you want to change
Accept his forgiveness

When you put your faith in Jesus to forgive you, it allows you to have a relationship with God! When you follow Jesus, you ask him to lead you in your daily life and you seek to become more like Him.

Maybe you made the decision to follow Christ as a child or earlier in your life, but your life choices haven’t reflected that. Maybe you drifted away in college or your faith has been on the back-burner for quite some time. From this day forward, you can follow Christ with your whole heart.

We’d encourage you to check out these passages in scripture that specifically reference salvation and what following Christ means: 1 John 1:9, Acts 3:19, Romans 8:1, Hebrews 10:17, Ephesians 2:8-9, Luke 22:42, Matthew 28:19-20.

What do I do next?

START READING THE BIBLE
Starting to read the Bible can feel daunting, but it’s a great way to get to know God better. You can start anywhere, but it might get confusing if you jump in randomly. We recommend starting with the book of John. John was a close friend of Jesus who wrote an account of His life and ministry. After that, you can check out a reading plan on the Bible App, at SheReadsTruth.com or HeReadsTruth.com. And you can always reach out to your Campus Pastor for other ideas and suggestions!
JOIN A GROUP
Cross Point is a place for people in every stage of that journey. Our community groups are a great place to start learning about faith alongside others. You can explore your spiritual life, ask questions and discuss faith with friends. Check out GROUPS to find out more about groups.
GET BAPTIZED
An important step you can take after you decide to follow Jesus is to go public with your decision. Baptism is an outward expression of an inward decision. It’s a way to show others that you’ve decided to follow Christ. You can find out more about baptism by going to BAPTISM
